“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NKJV)
“For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.” Habakkuk 2:3 (EVS)
“I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living! Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD.” Psalm 27:13-14 (EVS)
On May 25, 2024, my 102-year-old aunt died and on July 25, 2024, my mother, just one month away from her 103rd birthday died. Both women went home to be with Jesus. This year, I entered a new decade of my life. As I reflected on these events, the question arose, “Where did the ‘time’ go?
“TIME” is an interesting concept. Time is a priceless gift from God given to us to steward for His glory. If you Google the word time, it is defined as “Time, in its most basic sense, is a measure of the ongoing sequence of events that we observe as the past, present, and future. It’s an invisible thread that connects everything we do.” Webster defines Time as, “A continuous measurable quantity in which events occur in apparently irreversible order.”
Time is powerful and in the human realm—Nobody controls it. Nobody can stop it. Time is free, but you can’t own it, but you can use it. You can’t keep it, but you can spend it. And, once you’ve lost it, you can never get it back.
You and I have been given the same amount of time in a day, a month, and in a year. But the question I ask myself is not how much time do I have, but what do I do with the time I have been given by God?
Time is our most valuable possession. We cannot create more of it; but how we spend our time, to me, is the evidence of where my hope lies. Both my aunt and mother invested a significant amount of time in God’s WORD—Jesus their hope. The psalmist, King David, placed his hope firmly in God’s WORD. Psalm 119:74b, “For I have put my hope in your WORD.” In practice, I have come to learn what this means to me. Spending time seeking to understand God’s WORD, meditating on it, delighting in God’s WORD, and learning God’s WORD. It all requires an investment in my TIME to achieve what God desires for me and to have an intimate relationship with HIM. It is the only way to learn who God is and what He desires or wants for me.
I continue to learn each day that as I spend time with God in His WORD and in prayer, that God breathes His wisdom into me. He brings me comfort so that I can live my life fully and walk in the path and steps He has for me. It is important to value the moments and days He has given to all of us. We cannot know what tomorrow will bring (Proverbs 27:1), so we ought to dedicate today and all our days to our LORD and SAVIOR, JESUS!
