Missions Highlight Serving in Birmingham, England

Liz and Hamed

For the month of April, we are highlighting Liz and Hamed whom we have been supporting for several years.

It would be a discredit to Liz and Hamed to share about the work they are preparing to do in England without first sharing how God brought them to that city. Liz was serving with Global Partners in Eastern Europe, working with refugees and asylum seekers. Helping them find their way to a new home, away from the intense persecution they were facing in their homeland. Additionally, she would share the hope that is found in Jesus Christ, as she ministered to them. Many of the people she encountered had never heard the gospel previously.

Meanwhile, Hamed grew up in the Islamic Republic of Iran. While not a practicing Muslim, he had not heard about the Gospel, until his brother shared it with him. His brother immigrated to the UK and Hamed stayed behind, reading his Bible and learning more about Jesus and the good news He was declaring. As Hamed grew in his faith, he began sharing the Gospel through an underground church he started in his parents’ home. Suffice it to say that through the growth of the church the authorities became aware and Hamed was kidnapped by the secret police and tortured (with an expectation that he would be executed for his faith and attempt to convert others). By God’s grace he was able to flee his captors and gain asylum in Central Europe, where he would eventually meet Liz, and they would become husband and wife, as well as missionaries.

After a brief return to the US, they felt God was calling them to serve in Birmingham, England where they would be able to minister to a large population of Muslims who are unreached and equip the local churches to do the same. To read their full story, please click here.
