God First

Scott Wilson / Facilities Manager

Too often I get confused as to what God wants from me.

I know that as a believer I need to be willing to serve the Lord whenever the opportunity is available. But sometimes I take it upon myself to do the things that I believe will bring glory to God only to later realize that it was me that I was pleasing, not God.

As I read and study God’s Word, it has become very apparent that there is a reoccurring theme that God uses to address my dilemma. “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul and with all your strength.” (Deuteronomy 6:5) Jesus says in Matthew 23: 37-38, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” In the books of Mark and Luke these words are repeated.

Throughout the entire Bible, Jesus speaks of the importance of extending love, first to God then to our fellow man.

For me, that clarifies my confusion!
