Prince of Peace

by Robin Schara

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6

Lights, trees, decorations, gifts, meals, family, friends are a few of the ways we celebrate Christmas. We look forward to this time with joy and trepidation. December is one of the busiest times of the year as we prepare for events and activities that are centered around Christmas. Often peace is not felt in our preparation leading up to Christmas Day.

I imagine the events leading up to the birth of Jesus were as stressful for Mary too. A long journey on a donkey while nine months pregnant with no place to sleep could have not been very peace-filled. Yet, in the middle of that stress came the one person who holds the peace we all seek, Jesus, who is described as the Prince of Peace. Just the mention of His name embodies peace.

In this hectic world we live in, we can have peace because we have Jesus. When we focus on Jesus instead of what our circumstances are He can exude peace and infuse it into our life.

When everything around you feels frenzied just close your eyes for a moment, then say the name of Jesus. Breathe in His peace; it is beyond understanding.

Today enjoy your Christmas celebration filled with joy, love, and the presence of the Prince of Peace, Jesus. I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas filled with Peace.

Dear Jesus, as we celebrate you today, we pray that the peace you bring will be present in our Christmas. We pray that others will see our peace and know it comes from you. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
