Freedom

by Jenine Szymanski

“But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children.” Galatians 4:4-5

Freedom … it seems to be today’s buzz word. Freedom to choose from a myriad of things: relationships, careers, food choices, entertainment … the list is endless! Individual choices and varying personal truths interfere with the purpose of God’s redeeming plan for us. To those outside the church who don’t know Jesus, my choice to live under the lordship of Christ seems absurd.

Why would I “give up” my freedoms? Why should I give up my right to do whatever feels right to me? I will tell you why; it’s all about RELATIONSHIP. I don’t feel like I am giving up anything, in fact I am gaining so much more. The Creator of this world desires to have a personal relationship with every single person. It is in my submission to Christ that I am set free.

Lord, thank You for the total freedom found in You and You alone. As we approach this Christmas season, I pray that we experience Your redeeming power and love. Thank You for sending Your one and only son so we could be adopted as your own children. Help us to submit to You and Your will for our lives so that we can experience the fullness You have planned for us. It’s in Your perfect, matchless name we pray. Amen.
