Unified in Prayer

Every Tuesday morning at 10am, I have a date. It is with a group of pastors from across the country (actually one is in another country). Our purpose for meeting? To pray. That is it. And I look forward to it each week. We take turns leading, praying out of the Scriptures, praising God for His worthiness and interceding for our neediness. And it is rich. I am reminded about some cherished realities each week. Here are but a few.

First, I am not alone. We are not alone. We are part of a Kingdom that is impacting the plains of Kansas as well as the Bronx. The struggles and joys in Alabama are the same in Vermont. As the writer of Ecclesiastes said, “There is nothing new under the sun.”

Second, united prayer is powerful. We not only “feel” the unity of Spirit as we pray, but we have seen countless answers to prayer, and shared testimonies of the Lord’s goodness. The encouragement is real. Our faith is increased. We are brothers who are “carrying one another’s burdens and fulfilling the law of Christ.”

Third, our Father wants us to be one. In this group there are pastors from diverse denominations and independent churches. Some pastor church plants of a dozen people and some are in mega-churches. Some are in the cities and some walk country fields daily. We are ethnically diverse. But we are all one. And the prayers offered demonstrate our unity. The Father is pleased with this.

I am blessed to be a part of this group. I grow because of it. And my experience every Tuesday reminds me how much I desire to see this happening for every believer I know. It is in the more intimate times of closer interaction, more intimate conversations and instruction that we grow most. I’m praying all who are reading my story are personally experiencing the same thing too.
