No Excuses Left

I love my job BUT … every so often I have to write an “Engaging Story.” That’s the worst part. I sweat bullets over it. I have nothing “engaging” to say and I wish I had a good excuse to get out of it. Since I don’t, I agonize, procrastinate, complain, pray and then I do it.

Benjamin Franklin said: “He that is good for making excuses is seldom good for anything else.” Ouch! It seems that excuses are as old as mankind himself. Way back in the Garden of Eden when confronted by God on what they had done, Adam blamed Eve and Eve blamed the serpent. And on and on it went from there.

In Exodus 3 and 4 we read the account of God coming to Moses and telling him to go speak to Pharaoh to let His people go. Immediately Moses started with the questions: “Who am I…?”, “What shall I tell them?”, “What if they don’t listen to me?”, “I can’t talk.” and “Please send someone else.” Bottom line: Moses didn’t want to do it.

God answered all his questions. He told him who He was. He promised to be with him. He gave him what he needed to do the job. When Moses gave in and obeyed, history was forever changed, and Moses saw God do things he never dreamed possible.

Charles Spurgeon said that excuses are curses and when you have no excuses left there will be hope for you. What is God asking of you today? What is He asking of me? What are the excuses that are keeping you and me from going to where God wants us to be in His Kingdom and becoming who He created us to be? He has the answer to all our questions. He has the power to fulfill all He asks of us and He has the wisdom to know what we need to do to move forward in Him. He can make of us who He wants us to be and accomplish through us what He wants us to do. We have no excuse.
