Unconditional Love

Alan Dusel / Audio Ministry Coordinator

With a fast-paced schedule such as mine, it’s all too easy to get wrapped up in the day-to-day “what do I need to accomplish next” mentality as my days and weeks turn to months and years, flying by at breakneck speed. Working from multiple phone calendars jammed with meetings, appointments, and “to-do” lists, I often arrive home at the end of a long day totally exhausted, hungry, and physically and mentally spent. Yet I know one thing for sure that I can count on every day when I arrive home…

For those readers that are pet dog owners, you probably already know what’s coming … the most amazing “welcome home” awaits me every day, no matter the time, weather, travel conditions, or situation. I could have had the very best “red-letter” day ever … or the absolute worst day of my life. I could’ve been gone for only an hour to run an errand, or all day long … still I know that our faithful pet Labrador “Monty” will be there at the door going totally crazy, whining and barking like a mad dog, waiting for me to open the door from the garage. As I enter, he jumps up to greet and kiss me, and then proceeds to go to his box of toys and selects the perfect gift and brings it to me, wanting to give and receive love and affection … and to play!! I often see his cute face in the window waiting for me to arrive home as I pull in the driveway.

This is a daily occurrence at our home, and I bet similar greetings happen at homes of dog owners everywhere. Many of you reading this may also experience this most amazing “unconditional love” from your dear pet every day. What a gift!

As I think about how much unconditional love our beloved pet Lab Monty gives us every day, can you imagine how much more love Our Father in Heaven, the creator of the heavens and the earth…and all things good, bestows on us every day? He is crazy for us and loves us so very much! After all, He made us, and we are His children … and He is so happy to see us “come home.” He doesn’t care what you have done, where you’ve been, or how long you have been wandering aimlessly without purpose; He waits patiently for you to come home to Him! Our God is faithful, loving and good, and He forgives those with a contrite and repentant heart. He gave us the greatest gift ever … the gift of His only son Jesus, to bear the burdens and pay the price for our sin. Our God is a God of love, a God of second chances and truly loves unconditionally, and He is patiently waiting for you ... to come home.
