Broken People and a Broken World
Rose Vohwinkel / Next Gen Administrative Assistant
Being the mom of a chronically ill child has made me see the world, life and everyday issues so differently. We have taken to being outspoken for the disabled and have befriended people that are also chronically ill and suffering as well. One of those people is a girl named Jen. We met her when Brittany was having brain surgery 2 ½ years ago. She was in the room across the hall and having her second brain surgery. Since then, Brittany and Jen have become very close. They text and speak weekly. Jen is having her fifth brain surgery in January and just this past week her feeding tube tore out of her stomach. It has been an unrelenting journey for both of them.
All this to say that I texted Jen to tell her we were all praying for her. Her reply was that her mom believes it's best if we pray to those “becoming a saint” because “that’s when the most miracles happen.” I was so sad for her in that moment. But, after 2 ½ years, it was finally my opportunity to really tell her about Jesus and why He is the only answer to prayer. Her response was “I love it!” After planting seeds for a few years, I am praying and hoping that my words will help this broken girl, in a broken world, to know the ONE that can fix all of it, once and for all, no matter what more will come her way.
Wait patiently for the opportunities to come … they will. Speak the truth in love and let Jesus do the rest. And say an extra prayer for Jen, if you don’t mind.
