Unplanned and Unexpected

by Pastor Dick Bennett / Young at Heart Director

The last time I wrote an “Engaging Story” I entitled it, “Gold seeds and silver linings” because I had just had gold seeds implanted in my prostate to receive radiation treatments. That process is now history, and I am experiencing the silver lining, a report that I am cancer free. I thank God that it was caught in time, and the doctors were able to diagnose it and treat it so successfully.

The most exciting part of serving God is to watch the way He works in our lives, ways that were unplanned and unexpected. I never thought that I would go through that experience, and I was glad when the ordeal was over so I could get on with my normal routine of life, at least, that’s what I thought – but no – God had other plans for me. Now He is asking me to go to China to share the Gospel with the people who worship Him in house churches that are cropping up daily over there. Who knew? Only God! So now my wife and I will learn more of God’s will for our lives.

The path that God has taken us over the past 62 years has been fascinating, challenging, and very rewarding. I recommend that you get on God’s gospel train, give your heart to Jesus, and find out where He wants to take you in this life, not to mention the final destination. It reminds me of a great Sunday School chorus we sang many years ago:

We’re going to a mansion
On the happy day express
The letters on the engine
Spell J E S U S
The guard calls, “all for heaven?”
We gladly answer “yes”
We’re going to a mansion
On the happy day express.
