Repeated Reminders

Dawn Waggoner / Executive Administrative Assistant

In January, I started rereading The One Year Bible. The last couple weeks I have been in Deuteronomy and Joshua. I am reminded again of how obstinate and stubborn the people of Israel were year after year. As I read Moses telling the people ALL the blessings God has for them if they would just follow Him, and all the curses if they don’t, I found myself feeling frustrated that they kept choosing to walk away from God even though they had so much to lose.

And yet, am I very different? How often do I follow my own way or wisdom instead of seeking God’s way in a situation? How often do I start my day in a hurry with my to do list the only thing on my mind? If I am honest with myself, I am not very different than the Israelites … I am grateful for the repeated reminders in the Bible (I wonder if Moses got tired of repeating himself???) to pursue God and nothing else. He is our only Hope. He is the Way, the Truth, the Life. I am so grateful He doesn’t give up on me.

“Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” Joshua 1:7-8
