My Life is a Song

Nancy Carmichael / Director of Groups

That was our wedding verse. And why, you may ask, am I sharing it with you? We're coming up on our 20th Anniversary at the Carmichael house-Woohoo! Hard to believe; it seems like just yesterday when we said “I do” before our family and friends. What a great day that was! I loved our wedding. So full of joy and laughter and of course, great music. (If you know me at all, you know it's all about the great music ... and song lyrics. Don't forget the lyrics!) *“Let's ... Let's stay together ... Loving you whether times are good or bad, happy or sad...”

So now here we are, having made it through all the times and milestones: the good, the bad, the paper, the wood ... all the way to our Porcelain Year. Again, I say, Woohoo! *“Looks like we maaaaaade it...”

In this day and age, I'd say this is a pretty big deal. For me, it is an especially big deal. A dream come true, really. *“Well, well well!  You-ooh, ooh! ooh! - You make-ah my dreams come true (you-ooh, ooh! ooh!)”

Because for much of my life, it seemed to be a dream that was out of reach. Not to get all *“God blessed the broken road” on you ... but well, that's kind of my story. You see, my father left our family when I was six. And though my mother did an amazing job holding our family together, let's just say I found myself *“looking for love in all the wrong places” for a while. Okay, for *“A long, loooong tiiiime.” And since we're on a roll here, it's fair to say *“I got lost a time or two.”

That's actually putting it kindly. *“Love stinks” was more what it felt like. Yet, it was on that broken, stinky road that I learned to recognize ... and ultimately embrace … the One True Love who had been pursuing me all of my life. And He gave me not just a new heart in exchange for my broken one, but a new song. “I am my Beloved's, and my Beloved is mine.” (Song of Songs 6:3)

And though I'd like to say it's been all *“sunshine, lollipops and rainbows”, the Love Story I've been caught up in with Jesus has been something of a *“long and winding road” in itself ... but ...  the thing about THIS road is that sure, it may be long. It may be winding. But it's no longer broken; at least not like it was. This kind of broken road ALWAYS leads to His door. An open door to life, healing, and forever Love. The kind of Love that prepared me for loving the man of my dreams well ... for twenty whole years. Once again, I say Woo-hoo!

Like I said, it's all about the music … *“So bring your good times, and your laughter too, we're gonna celebrate and party with you!”

* A random prize to the first one who writes in or approaches me with the correct title to all *11 song references. Yes, there are 11!
