His Humanity

“He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray, since He Himself is subject to weakness.” Hebrews 5:2 NIV
I came across a 365-day devotional to start your day entitled, “Jesus First.” I have really enjoyed this devotional book; it has some very impactful and thoughtful meditations. When I think about God/Jesus/Holy Spirit, I usually think about majesty, creation, power, victory over death, comforter, etc.; but, recently in the above-mentioned devotional I came across a devotional for May 16, called “His Humanity”, which gives us another dimension of God that I would like to share with you.
“When was the last time you meditated on the humanity of Jesus? The one true God, in flesh and bones, subjected himself to all the limitations that we experience in our mortal bodies. He grew weak from lack of sleep and hunger. He knew what exhaustion felt like. He stubbed his toes and scraped his knees. He was not immune from pain or the awkwardness of adolescence. He knew. He knows.
Jesus is patient with us, for He knows our limitations. He is gentle with us, for He understands us. There is so much hope and solidarity to be found in friendship and a relationship with Jesus. He truly gets what we go through. And as the Son of God, seated at the right hand of his Father, He intercedes for us night and day. He prays for us! What a beautiful Savior. What a beautiful friend.
Jesus, I am so thankful for your patience and understanding. I long to walk in the fullness of your joy, and I’m so grateful that you also sit with me in my grief. You are so beautiful in your kindness, and I love you!”
