God’s Provision
“Your people settled in it, and from your bounty, God, you provided for the poor.” Psalms 68:10
George Mueller grew up in Germany and lived a heathen kind of life, even in Bible College. He stole; he drank; he cheated people and made fun of them. He was invited to a Bible study by some friends and the Lord got a hold of his heart. It was evident he was a changed person. Once saved, here is a description of his life:
Each day as George walked the streets, he saw children everywhere who had no mom or dad. They lived on the streets or in state-run poorhouses, where they were treated badly. George felt God calling him to open an orphanage to take care of the children.
George prayed, asking God to provide a building, people to oversee it, furniture, and money for food and clothing. God answered his prayers.
God has always had a heart for the poor, and that heart was shown greatly in the life of George Mueller. Notice a few things. First, as he “walked the streets, he saw…” We are making disciples as we see the needs around us as we are doing life. Second, “he felt God calling him.” His calling was for an orphanage for the kids. Our calling may be different, but it will align with the heart of God. Finally, “he prayed and God answered.” As the psalmist said, out of His bounty the Lord provided.
The third question to be answered this week: What do we see as we “walk the streets?” And what is God’s calling regarding what we are seeing? Are we praying for the Lord’s provision and believe He will provide it?” How exciting it is to live a life that does not depend on what we have but on what the Lord will provide!
