Are We There Yet?

Donna Zangara / Executive Director of Next Generation Ministries and EH Preschool

I can imagine every parent has heard these words a time or two this summer as you have been traveling and having summer adventures with your kids. Even as an adult we keep asking this question as we travel along our spiritual journey. The Father’s tender answer to this is mostly, “no.” I do not think any of us this side of heaven ever gets “there.”

I remember some precious conversations with my mother as she was in her last weeks on this side of heaven. This precious woman who served the Lord her whole life with all her heart, would say at 86 years and a life well lived, “Well I hope I am ready. I hope I have done everything He wanted me to do.” In her way, she was saying, “Am I there yet?”

As passionate followers of Jesus Christ, we keep striving toward getting “there.” Along my journey I have gathered some wisdom and have these jotted in my prayer journal. Every so often I refer to some of them as markers that help me to discern if I am staying on the path and heading in the right direction.

Someone’s heart needs this today:

  • I am an approved royal daughter/son of the King. (Psalm 3:7)

  • I am on track when I am responding more like Him and less like me.

  • When my miracles are happening more than my mistakes.

  • When I am thinking of others more than I think of myself.

  • When I am going towards my future, I am letting go of my past hurts. Remember to forget the offenses. Forgive and move on.

  • When I am on the right track, and I am listening to my Father’s leading I try to remember this:

    • The enemy knows me by name but calls me by my sin and mistakes.

    • The Lord knows all my sin and mistakes, but He calls me by name.

  • Do not be afraid of age. It is how we get home.

My brothers and sisters, keep going! Let us continue to encourage each other in word and deed. We are all striving to get “there.”

Cheering you on!
Donna

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8 NLT
