Advent Devotional: Day 21

The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone.
— John 1:4

“It’s a Wonderful Life” is a classic movie my family and I watch during the Christmas season. Spoiler alert: one man’s circumstances lead to a self-evaluation which he believes his family and community would be better off if he were never born. I highly doubt Mr. George Bailey is the only person who has ever felt this way.

The fact you are still here and reading this right now means that God is not done with you. God spoke everything into existence. You and I are a part of His creation along with the plant and animals we admire and even the ones we do not. Everything and everyone God created has a purpose.

If you’re not in the best place right now, be encouraged that there is a plan for you. Jesus’ life started from a humble beginning. Jesus was sent to live among men so that we could fully live the life God has intended for us. His life brings light to all even in the darkest of circumstances. I pray you will see God show up in unexpected ways.

Heavenly Father, You are the mighty Creator of all. I thank You that everything and everyone, including me is created in Your image with a purpose on purpose. Thank You for sending Your son, Jesus, the light of the world to bring hope among the darkness. Help us to see You in the unexpected and unexciting parts of our days. May we always marvel at the many works of Your hands. It is in your powerful name, I pray. Amen.
