Advent Devotional: Day 14

Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared…
— Luke 2:13-14

God specializes in “sudden”lies! God also specializes in showing up and showing off when you least expect it! These are the things that mark your life in the now, in your tomorrows and into eternity!

Our days are filled with seemingly purposeful and mundane activities and sometimes the line is so blurred between the two that one might find themselves feeling as though they are unseen and unheard and wondering if their lives or their tasks really matter. I wonder if the shepherds in this passage that were out in the field, keeping watch over their flocks by night may have felt the same way. They were considered the lowliest of society, working in darkness at times, and in obscurity.

But God … He saw them, and He picked them to be the first ones to deliver the birth announcement! I can imagine the hillside under the dark sky filled with millions of pinpoints of light! It was dark enough where they were able to lift their heads and look up and see an angel of the Lord greet them and experience the glory of the Lord shining around them! The light enveloped them, and the Angel delivered the announcement of the Birth of Great Joy that would be accessible to all people!!! The Lord Himself provided the GPS coordinates of the event. The shepherds were on the guest list!

And if one angel with a message wasn’t enough, our “Suddenly” God sends a multitude of heavenly hosts praising Him, saying, “glory to God in the highest and on earth peace among those whom He is pleased!” God is pleased with you! He is pleased to send His Son Jesus for you! You are perfectly positioned, seen, loved, and heard for the manifest presence of God to envelop you with His light and love. Look up in awe and wonder, and expect His “Suddenly” to impact you, your family, your places of influence at work and most importantly to Glorify God!

Lord, we thank You for loving us so much that we don’t need to worry about missing Your “Sudden”lies. They come at just the right time. Help us to be expectant always! Give us feet quick to Go and Tell!
