Advent Devotional: Day 11

Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.
— Luke 2:38

In the days of Christ this verse refences a long-time faithful prophetess, Anna who gave thanks for the birth of Jesus as she saw Him. Can you imagine gazing upon this child? They had anticipated this coming of the Messiah for many years to bring hope and redemption to their land.

Redemption means to go from sin to freedom through a new life in Christ.

Fast forward to today. We no longer need to wait for His arrival. He is alive and wants to be present in your life every moment of every day. He says call on Me and I will answer you because you have set your love on Me. (Psalm 91:14) He will rescue us and restores us to have joy. Especially during this season, we should have joy. Not only because of the festivities. His joy will give us His strength. God always will be there, will show up and will lift you up.

So many times, myself included, we want to sit in the director’s chair and ask God to assist. But God is the Director. We live in a take-charge world so moving over when God shows up is sometimes a difficult thing to do. When you can identify with God and humble yourself, the heavens’ vistas open up before you granting you a glimpse of Glory. Amazing!

He is after all Our Savior. No longer that child we see in the manger. He is God Almighty, and we have the privilege of Him leading our lives. What would our lives be like without His redemption? What has God in His mercy spared us from that we may not even know about? Can you see Him? Can you respond? We need to be thankful for His birth.

Show God your gratefulness and thank Him for coming to redeem us and give us the Freedom we have from sin. Smile from within. Jesus is the greatest gift imaginable. When you have Him, you have everything you need.

Lord, I pray You will open our eyes to see what a marvelous life we have because You came to earth that day.
