Multiplication of Leadership: A Prayer Guide in Preparation for 2022

This prayer guide is given for us to seek the face of our Father together as we enter 2022. Our theme for this year is the multiplication of leadership. Each day the focus is on one of the areas of leadership we will be discussing throughout the year.

Please read the Scripture of the day and read the little devotional. Then use at least one of the prayer prompts in each section. We are following the “four x four” pattern of prayer:

Reverence: Praising God for something He has shown us about Himself.
Response: Responding to what God has shown us, to do His will.
Requests: Asking Him for healing of relationships and resources to accomplish His will.
Readiness: Asking God to lead us to accomplish it.

Monday, January 3: Romans 6:1-14

Leadership begins with us. How can we lead and influence others if we can’t practice discipline in our own lives? Paul begins this chapter by asking a simple question. If confessing our sin brings us to the point of experiencing God’s grace, should we keep on sinning so we experience His grace even more?

What a foolish question. If we are in Christ, we have died with Him to sin, and have been raised to life with Him. The life we live now is in this grace to do the right thing. So, by grace we continually and repeatedly say no to wrong things and say yes to right things. We were slaves to sin before, but now, by His grace, we are free to offer ourselves as “slaves to righteousness.”

I grew up in a smoker’s home. My Dad was addicted to cigarettes for most of his life. When his first heart attack came, he had a decision to make. With a clear understanding of the implications, and all the support necessary to take action, he was either going to choose his nicotine or choose life. At that point, he chose to throw all remaining packs away.

The only resource to breaking the power of sin is Jesus Christ. Now each must decide, will we take advantage of His grace and power, putting to death the things that are killing us, and embracing the things that bring us life or not?

How are you doing in the area of leading yourself? You can never help others go beyond where you are yourself.

Reverence:
  • I praise You, Lord for being the God of grace, and for showing me grace by __________. (v. 1-4)
  • Thank You, Lord for bringing me from death to life as shown by __________. (v. 13)
Response:
  • I offer my __________ (a part of your body) as an instrument of righteousness. (v. 13)
  • By Your resurrection power, I count myself dead to __________ which has been a habitual sin in my life. (v. 11)
Requests:
  • Lord, I know that part of the fruit of the Spirit is self-control. Please grant me self-control over __________. (v. 12)
  • Lord, help me to celebrate __________ (an area of your life) becoming more holy (set apart to Jesus) in my life. (v. 22)
Readiness:
  • Send me out Lord and help me to tell others about the gift of life I have received from Jesus. (v. 23)
