Savor the Moments

Every year I choose a word to live out through the year. This year my word has been “savor.” In this season of my life, it is the perfect word for me. Why? Because for so many years I have rushed through life to the next thing. Maybe you are like me; I have always been a forward looker, as in what is next, instead of just enjoying the present moment that I am in.

This year God so poignantly has put it on my heart to just be still and enjoy the moment I am in by being present. Savor where I am, be grateful and thank God for where He has placed me each moment of the day, to stop rushing to the next thing.

Paul encouraged the Thessalonians with that same idea when he told them to “give thanks in all circumstances for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18

And he encouraged the Philippians to think upon the things that are worthy of praise. “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” Philippians 4:8

This year I have been putting a concerted effort in just being still in the moment and appreciating what life has to offer each minute of the day. In doing so I have experienced life less hurried and have seen God in nature, conversations, and special moments that might not have been noticed before.

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10
