Knowing Our Time is Precious

Something I have missed more than anything over the past few months has been stillness.

Back in March, we were made to stop our everyday routine of driving our kids to school, going to work, picking up the kids, dropping them off at practice/lessons/a friend’s house, throwing dinner together, homework, bath time, bedtime … All the hurry just … stopped.

Of course, it took time to adjust to a new routine, but there was no longer an urgency to be somewhere at a certain time. As parents, we did our best to be intentional with the slower pace, knowing our time together was precious.

Now that pace has picked up and we are back to the rush, I find I am craving the simplicity of our family being under one roof all day, every day. Please don’t misunderstand me. I don’t want to slow down under the same circumstances we had months ago, but as we move toward the holiday season, I want to again be intentional about the moments our family has together.

Author Reggie Joyner says, “Nobody influences the life of a child more than a parent.” This tells me that as parents, we have a God-given responsibility to leverage every moment with our children to draw them closer to Him.

“Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him.” Psalm 62:5
