Do you hear it? Silence, complete and utter silence. No car treads making noise on the highways, no sirens, and no airplanes in the sky. All is silent. A gentle quietness is what my husband and I experienced as we walked in our neighborhood early on in the pandemic. We were given time to think and meditate on who God is—our Sovereign Lord, the Creator of our world, and Author of history.

“Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10

Totally unexpected, the quiet, the sheltering-in-place, no activities, time, the absence of community, the absence of freedom, fear, and an abundance of questions. Am I going to get sick? Am I going to die? How could this happen in America? God, did you know? How long God? So many questions.

As surprising as the unexpected is to us, it is never unexpected to God. The enemy wants to use these unexpected events to take our focus away from God’s promises and rob us of life in Him. Satan wants to paralyze us in the present circumstances and veil or blind us to our vision and hope in our future in this life and with Jesus. Merely surviving this pandemic and the events to come, for me, is not an option; I must keep moving through with God’s strength to live a life of purpose and passion, always moving forward and never losing sight of Jesus.

Psalm 46:1-2a “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear.”

Isaiah 41:10 “Do not fear for I am with you, do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Psalm 62:1-2, 5-6 “Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will not be shaken.”
As we continue in the days ahead, I rely on our God and meditate on the following scripture,
“Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice! Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon. Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.” Philippians 4:4-9 NLT
