When We Expect it the Least

As a parent of two young kids it can seem at times that the message of the Gospel isn’t sinking in at the pace we’d like it to. It can seem at times that they’re not interested at all. However, I was reminded of Deuteronomy 6:6-7:
“And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”

As I was recently praying for my kids, my 11-year-old daughter called me out of the blue, excited about the verse of the day she had seen and how it was a perfect message for her. At that moment I realized how amazing God is at giving us the right encouragement at the right time to keep going and not lose hope or focus on consistently living for Christ.

Fruit will be produced according to His timeline. Although this particular experience was through the lens of a parent, I believe it applies to all of us as believers - parent or not. Consistency in our faith will produce fruit and open doors around us when we expect it the least. We can get discouraged at times but Galatians 6:9 reminds us: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
