Miracles
Dick Bennett / Pastor "Young at Heart" and Congregational Care
When I received this assignment I wondered, “what shall I write about this time?” I no longer need to wonder. I have some miracles to report. On May 10, at 3:30am we received a text from our daughter in North Carolina saying that we were great grandparents of a new baby girl, Eve. It was a C-section but both mom and baby were doing fine. She is the most beautiful baby ever born … so #1 is the miracle of birth.
At 4:00pm the same day, our daughter-in-law from Virginia called to tell us that our son, Jeff, had a heart attack and was in the ER in Lynchburg General hospital. Talk about an emotional roller coaster. After a battery of tests and pictures of his heart over the weekend the doctors said open heart surgery was needed and scheduled it for Tuesday at 1:00pm. The main artery was almost 99% blocked. Have you ever heard the phrase “hanging by a thread”? That’s how much blood was getting through the aorta. So, on Monday we drove to Virginia to be with him and his family on Tuesday. Here is the way the hand of God was on display:

So, on Monday we drove to Virginia to be with him and his family on Tuesday. Here is the way the hand of God was on display:
1. The attack happened while he was driving by the hospital on his way home from work. He barely made it into the ER.
2. He was on a wild boar hunt in West Virginia with his two sons and son-in-law three days prior to the attack and would have died in the woods had the attack occurred there.
3. He had survived three previous attacks in recent months that he thought were just from his persistent coughing from pneumonia he had two years ago. The doctor said they were heart attacks. After looking at the pictures he said to Jeff, “what are you doing here?” meaning, “it’s a miracle.”
4. His daughter, Malori, had just arrived home the week before from an Air Base in Missouri to spend a year while her husband is on assignment in South Korea (he went from the boar hunt to board the plane for that assignment). Her mom desperately needed her there at this time. Malori will carefully control her dad’s diet and exercise during the recovery time, while her mom can continue working.
So, do you believe in miracles? I sure do!
Do you believe in answers to prayer? I do, and I know that all those who knew this story were praying. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.
