Saying "Yes" to God

Dawn Waggoner / Executive Assistant

Over the summer, Pastor Justin preached a message (Winning Battles: The Uphill Battle from 2 Samuel 11-22) about spiritual growth. In that message he said if we are stuck, we need to look at where we have said “no” to God. That question resonated with me for weeks. I kept trying to think of where I had said “no” to God. I couldn’t think of a time I had been rebellious and stubborn, like a toddler when they say “no” to something they don’t want to do. But then it occurred to me, what about the things I knew I should be doing, but was not doing? More like a “no thank you, not now” response. Had I done that? How about regular exercise, or healthier eating habits, consistent quiet time, or talking to unsaved friends and family about Jesus? Hmm … now that struck a nerve.

As I have been thinking about this, I have been more aware of these areas where I need to say “yes” to God. Starting new habits like rearranging my schedule to include exercise and quiet time, being more aware of what and when I eat, looking for ways to share my story with family and friends. When I take the time to surrender all of me to Him, then saying “yes” becomes a lot easier. His Spirit gives me everything I need, just when I need it.
