Broken, But Not Beaten

So, at our College Ministry, IGNITE:, our lesson for the week came from John 12:24-25, which says;
“Listen carefully: Unless a grain of wheat is buried in the ground, dead to the world, it is never any more than a grain of wheat. But if it is buried, it sprouts and reproduces itself many times over. In the same way, anyone who holds on to life just as it is destroys that life. But if you let it go, reckless in your love, you’ll have it forever, real and eternal." (MSG)
For this lesson, we were all given a seed to plant, representing our lives. The lesson was that our pride must die in order for growth in Christ to take place. This illustration would go on to be almost a direct parallel to my walk with Christ. Initially, the plant grew up fast and strong, but I forgot to water it one day, and the plant dried up and toppled over all wilted and yellow. Another day, my cat chewed on the leaves, hampering the plant’s ability to take in sunlight. But I kept at it, did research, and continued to water it and put it in the light, even if it meant keeping a room light on all day. Eventually, baby leaves up top started to grow, and the damaged leaves were healed.

Similarly, there may be days where we neglect our walk with Christ, and we topple over wilted and yellow. Or there may be days where outside forces seek to destroy our faith and hamper our ability to take in His light. But if we continue to seek Him, research His Word, and walk in His Light, we too will continue to grow and have our damaged leaves healed!
