The One Constant

Not everyone sails through life on clouds of ease; in fact, most of us face some difficult challenges from time to time. You get up one morning eagerly anticipating the day and you receive a call that someone you love died unexpectedly. Perhaps it was suicide, perhaps a massive heart attack, perhaps killed at war or a senseless shooting. Whatever, your life will never be the same again. Perhaps it's a call from your doctor giving you the results of your testing - cancer, diabetes, heart disease – suddenly your life takes on a whole new lease. Perhaps it's an earthquake or hurricane and everything you have is lost. Maybe you are called into an office to be told your job is gone.
Life is uncertain. It brings changes. It has great joys and deep sorrows. Jesus said that in this world you will have troubles. We can count on that.
It is important that we get to know God and His Word before the storms come. That gives us the firm foundation to withstand any storm life throws at us. Matthew 7:24-25 says “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”
Recently, I've been musing upon the immutable character of God. He never changes. Who He was, He is and always will be. That gives me great comfort. I know I can count on Him no matter what. He is the one constant in an ever-changing world. He is the solid rock, the sure foundation upon which to build life.
