The Foundation

This past Sunday, Pastor Pat Jones taught that the Word of God has to be our foundation. Today on the blog, Dawn Waggoner (Executive Assistant) is sharing what it means to her to have His Word as the foundation in her life. Read her thoughts below.

Recently, I was reading the first chapter of Joshua which has a very familiar command about being strong and courageous. It struck me this time, however, that this command is connected to another very important one:

“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”  Joshua 1: 7-9

I can attempt to be “strong and very courageous”, but if I am not being careful to obey God’s Word, meditating on it day and night, and remembering what God has done in the past so I can be encouraged for what He will do in the future, then chances are I will not be very successful. When I keep His Word on my lips, doing what it says by the power of the Holy Spirit, it is easier to be strong and courageous when I face a difficult trial.

I am so grateful for God’s Word and the encouragement He gives through it. I encourage you to spend some time today reading and meditating on His amazing, timeless Word.
