One day late last winter my wife came home from work and told me that she had lost her diamond. She happened to look down and noticed it was gone… no idea of where or when. It was the diamond in the engagement ring that I had given to her before we were married. It wasn’t an awfully expensive diamond, but it was unique because it was heart-shaped. I saw her disappointment and felt really bad for her. I knew we could replace it, but it just wouldn’t be the same as the original.

I said a prayer. I felt in my heart that if I looked hard enough I could find it. I really believed that we would find it. We looked everywhere. Searched her car, turned gloves inside out, checked coat pockets, and looked through the laundry and washing machines. Nothing! I even went as far as to check the vacuum cleaner debris each time I emptied it. Any spot I could think of I looked in. I even got in the habit of walking through the house looking down to see if I noticed something sparkly. No diamond.

As the days and weeks passed the prospect of finding it slowly faded. Soon it really wasn’t much of a priority anymore. Every once in a while the thought would flash through my head, but for the most part I came to believe it was gone. I started making plans to replace it. The prayer I prayed that day was for us to find it. I also prayed that the disappointment of not finding it would be short-lived. I even prayed for the means to replace it if need be. I tried to cover all the bases no matter how the outcome turned out. I put the whole matter in Gods’ hands and was confident that it would all work out.

As a believer in God Almighty and in Jesus Christ His Son, our Savior, it is so comforting to know we can come to Him with anything. He truly loves us and wants his best for us. We just have to be willing to accept his best whether it lines up with what we want or not. I believe Gods’ love for us is beyond our level of understanding. I also believe He is going to give us the desires of our heart. Our role is to fully believe in Him through His word, trust Him with all of our heart, and obey Him.

“And now the rest of the story”

As you know, this winter has been brutal to say the least. I can’t imagine how many tons of salt the road crews have gone through trying to keep the ice melted. A few weeks ago my son-in-law was driving in his truck when he looked down at all the salt chips that were on his floor. One piece caught his eye and he reached down and picked it up. Yep, you guessed it. It was heart-shaped and very sparkly. After almost a year the diamond turned up. My wife and I are very grateful and give God the glory for answered prayers. Believe in Him, He loves you!
