Inward Joy
“You have filled my heart with greater joy than when their grain and new wine abound.” Psalm 4:7Shortly after ringing in the New Year, the word “joy” was gently whispered in my heart by our gracious Heavenly Father. I love when this happens because I know He is leading me and revealing a new truth.
Through life’s ups and downs, I have found that true and lasting joy is inward. To attain this joy, you must have a consistent relationship with Jesus Christ and trust in a God who knows and loves us so intimately and holds the gift of eternity in his hands.
The second part of Psalm 4:7 speaks of happiness which comes as a result of pleasant circumstances. Of course that too is needed in this life and is God-given, but it is fleeting.
Inward joy is steady; happiness is unpredictable. Inward joy defeats discouragement; happiness covers it up. Inward joy is lasting; happiness is temporary. Inward joy is knowing my name is written in the “Book of Life.”
The joy of living with Jesus Christ daily keeps me stable and focused on what really matters … loving and sharing with those who do not know Christ and His unsurpassed inward joy.
