Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided—“Great is Thy faithfulness,” Lord, unto me!
We’ve all heard the great hymn; we’ve all sung it so many times. But do we really know that God’s mercies are new every day? Every morning??
July 18, 2013…that was the day my husband Bob and I heard those words, you have cancer. I remember laughing asking his urologist to repeat those words one more time (actually I made him repeat it a total of three times, because I didn’t believe him).
To make a long story very short, that day started a new journey for us. A journey I wasn’t sure I was prepared to walk, a journey I certainly didn’t want to walk, but really didn’t have any choice but to begin walking.
I remember very many sleepless nights where my mind began to wander to places it didn’t need to wander which made my sleepless nights even longer. Every morning as the sun would begin to rise, I was gently reminded that we weren’t alone walking this path; there were three of us on this journey. It was then that I really realized that God’s Mercies really are new every day. Not every other day, not only on Mondays, but every single day. That is what got us through…the mercy of God. I couldn’t imagine being on this journey without Him!!
