As I'm sure many of you know who are reading this, my wife and I just had our first baby. Phoebe is a beautiful little baby girl. My wife and I have prayed for this little girl all throughout the pregnancy and have been praying for her continually now. Through this little girl I have already learned many, many things, the closest to mind however is what it takes for true love to exist.

There are many things that people tell you when you're about to have a baby, none of which you understand the scope of until you're holding a screaming infant, exhausted at 2 or 3 in the morning. Things like, "Don't shake the baby." I never understood that statement before, why would anyone shake a baby? Poor little cute ball of sweetness. Now, I understand the warning. I make light of this, but in all reality this is where true love is played out. I think of how it must look from my heavenly Father's perspective as I scream and shake and squirm about, completely inconsolable. Then it strikes you, His love is constant, unconditional, patient, kind. This kind of love can be hard, but isn't that what we're called to, to "spur each other on toward love and good deeds." The most important thing I've learned recently in those times where your love is tested is to simply praise God in the midst of it. It's in his hands already, offer thanks for His promises, that He will never give you more than you can handle...that "I will never leave you nor forsake you." For Phoebe when she is inconsolable, that "(she) is fearfully and wonderfully made" and precious in the eyes of a great and mighty God. So that is my encouragement, love when love seems impossible, but do it through the love Christ poured out on you.

Thank You Lord that You are faithful for the journey. Help me to trust You for the duration of the process so I won't miss anything You want to accomplish. Grow my obedience Holy Spirit I pray, in Your beautiful and Holy Name, the name of Jesus.
