Where is God?

Joe DeLozier / Pastor of Missions and Mobilization

Once, on being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The coming of the kingdom of God is not something that can be observed, nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is in your midst.” Luke 17:20-21

Amid very difficult circumstances, whether it is a mass shooting or families living in impoverished conditions, the question is often raised, where is God?

As I reflect on my first few months on staff, I can’t help but be amazed at the work God is doing. In my role as Pastor of Missions and Mobilization, I have the privilege of meeting with a variety of ministries that are being used of God to bring about hope to people who are hurting and don’t know where to find hope.

Recently, I sat down with Rev. Terry King and heard how God has used Saving Grace Ministries to minister to thousands of people who were impacted by the shooting that took place at Tops on Jefferson Ave. This is over and above the work they are doing to help men and women transition from a correctional facility to life in a community outside those walls. (There are some powerful testimonies.)

Another time, I met with Becky Stanley from India Gospel League to hear how God is using their ministry to reach the unreached in rural locations of India. Their goal was to plant 100 churches per year when they started roughly 25 years ago. To date, they have planted 125,000 churches! These are primarily churches that meet in homes and have a minimum of 20 people who have been baptized after receiving Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Their work doesn’t stop there, it progresses to providing Healthcare and as well as ministering and discipling children.

The next time I, or you, hear someone ask, “Where is God?”, we should be able to share that He is in our midst, and this is how I know!
