Trust Jesus and Follow Him

Peter Gabucci / Student Ministries Director

Happy Fall Y’all! I know … that’s not a very Buffalo thing to say! But, where I come from down South, it’s all over every piece of fall decor that has no doubt already been put out!

Anyway, fall brings lots of things to my mind: school is back in session (full-swing by now); football games every weekend (Go Bills!); cider mills churning delicious drinks and making mouthwatering treats; and let’s not forget the cool, crisp hoodie weather we all get to enjoy for the season. With school back in session, so is the new year of Eastern Hills Students. For that, I am so thankful!

This year we are claiming Proverbs 3:5-6 as the way we will live our daily lives – trusting and following Jesus! The verses state, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.” We recently performed an activity of walking a path with which we were unfamiliar. The path narrowly taped off. It had obstacles like chairs, balls, tables, and other things. Oh, and that’s not all. Each of the students had to walk this path while wearing a blindfold! Oh my! Walking that path with a blindfold is NOT a great idea; however, the students were allowed to choose either a friend to guide them or a leader to do the same. Someone in whom they could place their trust as they guided them along the way. As you can imagine, choosing someone who could see what’s ahead and guide you along the way made walking the path a whole lot easier than their third choice – walking the path alone. Now, isn’t this like our lives? Isn’t life easier when we don’t walk alone? Trust Jesus, and follow Him. We only promise ourselves a life of bumps and bruises from hitting obstacles we could have otherwise avoided. It’s pretty simple – trust Jesus and follow Him.

And, for all you Buffalonians, Happy Autumn, you guys!
