Missions Highlight
Welcome to the land down under. Chris & Melissa George have been serving with Global Partners in Western Australia since 2004. They live just outside of Perth and serve within a community that classifies itself as 70% atheist. In fact, Australia is in the top ten of most secular countries in the world. This may sound like a daunting challenge, but in many respects, this provides them with an opportunity to reach what some might consider the unreached. The town they live in, Landsdale, has one church, the one that they planted over 20 years ago. That speaks to the lack of interest in yearning for something greater than themselves. It’s hard to fathom a life without God, and yet that is where God has called them to minister.
So how exactly do the Georges connect with the community? They do it in a variety of ways. One is the annual “Loot in the Boot”, or what we in the U.S. would call “Trunk and Treat” during Halloween. The other is an opportunity that fell into their lap. God opened the door for them through pancakes, yes, you heard right, pancakes. Every Monday and Thursday morning they go to two primary schools and make pancakes. They get to hand them out to the kids as they come in for the day. They get to share a smile and the love of Christ, by giving them some encouragement. Some of the kids may not have had breakfast before they arrived at school, so now their bellies are filled, as well as their spirits. This also presents an opportunity to meet some of the people in their community. Through these connections, some of the kids are coming to Kids Club, and some of the families are now coming to their church.
The Georges are grateful for the prayers and financial support of Eastern Hills Church.
