God Is In the Ordinary
Carey Dugan / Preschool Operations and Next Gen Resources Director
Most days are small and steady.
I think we all love the big moments in life. Like preparing for the kids to go back to school. Going away on a long-awaited vacation. Even getting back to a routine. The seasons where everything feels new and full of momentum. But most days don’t look like that.
Most of life is lived in the middle, in the routine, the ordinary days, where things are just moving along. Work is steady. Schedules are full. Nothing feels especially exciting or especially hard.
For a long time, I thought that meant I was stuck, that nothing was changing, and I should be further along by now. But I’m learning that God does some of His best work in these steady, in-between days.
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9
These plateau seasons teach me how to be faithful when no one is cheering and nothing feels impressive. They teach me how to keep showing up, even when growth feels slow and progress is hard to see. Roots grow deep before anything shows on the surface. A lot of real growth happens where no one is looking.
So, if life feels a little ordinary right now, I’m learning not to rush past it. Not to wish it away. God is just as present in the ordinary as He is in the extraordinary. And maybe this “plateau” isn’t a setback at all. Maybe it’s preparation for what is coming next.
