Advent Devotional: Day 5

Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: after His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with Child of the Holy Spirit.
— Matthew 1:18

The eternal Son of God breaks through into our reality. He takes on flesh that we could behold His glory. This incarnation of the Messiah, the God-Man, has caused many to rise and many to fall. A poor tender needy infant was probably not what the Jewish leaders expected to fulfill Micah 5:2. Jesus didn’t look like the Everlasting One of old, the One to be Ruler of Israel, the One to judge Israel’s enemies.

Nevertheless, He was, and is, indeed the Son of God sent at the right time in the right place to save the world and make a way to reconcile all to God.

So many today still refuse to recognize Jesus as the answer to the sin and sadness in the world; the One and only Savior. Let us proclaim, with joyful celebration, the miraculous incarnation of the God-Man in the manger this Christmas season. And let us always be ready to winsomely point all who ask about our great hope to the cross and resurrection with meekness and fear

Oh Lord Jesus, give me faith and trust like Your servants, Mary and Joseph. Use me this Christmas season to be a light of truth and hope to all those seeking You and the hope You have for them.
