God of the Unexpected

Pat Jones / Lead Pastor

Most of you probably know that last week changed completely for me. I had plans for the week and they did not include a heart attack, angiogram, and bypass surgery. The other piece that was interesting for me is that I knew we had done everything possible to be healthy. Yet as one doctor said to me, “Your history caught up with you.” In other words, the genes that came into my life from my father and paternal grandfather impacted me greatly. What happened to clog my arteries came from things long ago, not recent habits.

I was reminded of Isaiah’s words from the Lord:
“Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, ‘My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.’” Isaiah 46:9-10

I find great comfort in knowing that all the past things that happened in my life (and setting the stage for my life) God knew. All the plans and purposes He yet has for my life are in His hands and He will do as He pleases. So, no event or situation affects my life apart from His purpose. Therefore, I rest in Him. I hope in Him. I am comforted in Him. And He will make it all known in due time.

Got something unexpected going on? Me too. But I encourage you not to fret or fear but find comfort in the One who is unlike any other. Compared to Him there is no other. He is God, and He will do what He pleases. And it is always for His purpose and our good.
