In Their Season

Pat Jones / Lead Pastor

We have a little garden at home. During the winter, I cover it with a little hoop house, a protective covering that utilizes the sunshine like a greenhouse. We enjoyed kale and lettuce and chard all these months. I recently put fresh compost soil on it, and it is ready for some fresh plantings.

God designed things to grow in their season. I came across two verses that encouraged me. One is from Ecclesiastes:
“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” Ecclesiastes 3:11

It reminded me that all of us have a sense of eternity in us. Yet we can’t comprehend all that God is doing. He is God and I am not. The other verse that sparked my interest is from Isaiah:
“The least of you will become a thousand, the smallest a mighty nation. I am the Lord; in its time I will do this swiftly.” Isaiah 60:22

In this process of making things beautiful in its time, God may suddenly make the mighty weak and the small, mighty. He can and will use any tool to accomplish His purposes. Every time I go to our garden, I am reminded that God is the one who brings growth, who can make things thrive in adverse conditions, and who will bear fruit through people who are firmly planted in Him, just like the plants are to the soil.

That brings me encouragement and hope. And I pray it does for you today.
