Unexpected Provision

Kim Howell / Worship Arts Ministry Assistant

I recently had a period where things got so busy I didn’t know which way to turn. After one particularly stressful day I was lying in bed trying to go to sleep. My mind was already buzzing with all the next day’s tasks, and I found myself overwhelmed with tears forming in my eyes as I realized how much there was to do. As I lay there all I could think was how I couldn’t do it all.

And then that familiar voice spoke gently to my heart and reminded me about the ways God had provided for me during the last few weeks when I hadn’t even asked. To be honest, I had let myself get so busy I had barely thought about God. And yet, He was thinking about me. He saw the day I was running late and couldn’t stop for breakfast. Someone texted shortly after I got to work that day and asked if I needed breakfast. They dropped it off about half an hour later. On another occasion, someone handed me a Christmas card they had seen in the store that was specifically for my secret pal at church. They knew I would have to go out and get one and thought it would save me a trip. It did. And a lot of stress.

There were other instances too that the Holy Spirit reminded me of as I lay there that night. He reminded me that God did all of this for me simply because He loves me. He knew what was coming and provided for my needs despite me giving Him no thought during that time.

If you’ve been in one of those busy times recently maybe stop with me for a moment today and let’s think about the amazing ways God has provided for us. Let’s take the time to acknowledge our great provider and thank Him that His love and provision aren’t dependent on anything we do.
