Ministry is Life and Life is Ministry

by Mat Dawson / Pastor of Student Ministries

I know it’s easy in church world to get caught up in a “serving” mindset, but we need to make sure that we keep it a biblical mindset. Jesus did ministry all day and every day. It didn’t matter who He was with or where He was, He was doing ministry. It didn’t matter if He was with the woman at the well, teaching at the synagogue, or hanging at a wedding feast … He was doing ministry and we need to adopt that same mindset. It doesn’t matter if we are with people or alone, we are doing ministry.

We need to be in the practice of being the hands and feet of Jesus whenever and wherever we go. This will keep us from the danger of compartmentalizing our lives from the spiritual and the worldly, from church life to home life. We need to live in the ministry mindset and not just when we are handing out bulletins or holding babies at church, but also when we are helping with homework and doing life at home. This will force us to live a dependent lifestyle, one that is dependent on the Holy Spirit to give us what we need for each and every moment of each and every day.

God is doing a great work in our lives in which He uses daily circumstances and relational connections for His mighty and creative sanctifying work, deep in our soul. So, this week let’s be aware of what God has planned for our day, let’s let our conversations be seasoned with salt so that those who hear our words may be thirsty for Jesus. Let’s be aware of our weaknesses so that through Jesus, we can gain victory over sin. Let’s make our life, ministry! And be a blessing to those whom God puts in our path.
