As
I was having devotions a few weeks ago a verse from Luke 5: 13 caught my
attention, “Jesus
reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!”
And immediately the leprosy left him.
Jesus,
physically, reached out to touch the man and healing took place. Have you ever stopped
to notice the many times Jesus reached out to touch others? He not only touched
physically, but also, spiritually to bring healing and wholeness to others.
In
the past few weeks, I had to undergo surgery on my eyes. I was more anxious
than I thought about the procedures. When I was on the operating table, waiting
for the conscious sedation and the procedures to begin, I was literally,
physically shaking. I meditated on the 23rd Psalm and then recited
the Lord’s Prayer. As I sought out Jesus through prayer, a complete calm came
over my body and I felt His touch. I became aware during the procedure, that
the nurse anesthetist was there holding my hand, also. Touch is such a
comforting thing. It says, “I care,” “I’m there for you.” “I will never leave
you or forsake you.” I really have never given “touch” much thought, but Jesus
reaches out to touch our lives in so many ways, if we invite Him to do so.
The
song, “He Touched Me” says it so well:
“Shackled by a heavy burden, ‘Neath a
load of guilt and shame, Then the hand of Jesus touched me, And now I am no
longer the same.
He touched me, Oh He touched me, And oh
the joy that floods my soul! Something happened and now I know, He touched me
and made me whole.
Since I met this blessed Savior, Since
He cleansed and made me whole, I will never cease to praise Him, I’ll shout it
while eternity rolls.
He touched me, Oh He touched me, And oh
the joy that floods my soul! Something happened and now I know, He touched me
and made me whole.”
