Pastor Mike Dwyer / Executive Pastor and Director of Men’s Ministry
As
I have been preparing for and contemplating the coming of Easter, I have been
reading through the Gospels. The other morning when I was away on retreat with
our senior staff I was reading from the Book of Mark and noticed something that
I hadn’t before. In Mark 1:10 the baptism of Jesus is being discussed and the
writer tells us that “just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw
heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a
dove.” It occurred to me that at the end of his ministry on earth we are told
that “The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to
bottom.” (Mark 15:38) It appears to me that the beginning and ending of Jesus’
ministry here on Earth were marked by “book end” events of tearing. That the
divine revelation of the Father in and through the son was complete. It hit me
once again how much our Lord loved us (and still loves us). I cannot imagine
the cost that was paid to tear open Heaven, to rip asunder the Trinity and yet
allowed us access to that very same throne room from which Jesus descended. I
often find small treasures in the Bible that I have never seen before.
Treasures that remind me of my great worth to our Father and of His great love
for me. Blessings this Easter my brothers and sisters!
