I want to know You even more
Holiness is my desire
Purify, burn in me, come and make me clean
You refine me in Your fire*

"Do I REALLY mean this?"

True confession time: That’s what I’m often thinking during worship.

I mean, them are some pretty strong words. And it’s not like I’m LYING. Of course, I believe in the essential Truths of that, and so many other bold declarations we make about our great God, and our steadfast devotion to Him.

But am I really THINKING about what I’m saying? Do I actually feel the WEIGHT of the words I so love to sing in my best sing-songy voice? Because they are more than just mere words, my friends. We are uttering deep Truths that have the power to literally change our lives.

So what will it look like to have God purify me? To refine me in His fire? I shudder to think, to be perfectly honest. But it scares me even more to think of NOT trusting Him to do what’s best in my life.

He knows what’s in our hearts. And He calls us to come and lay it all down. That’s what worship is. That is our offering. He wants our honest heart. How else can He purify it?
