"Whenever we have an opportunity, let us work for the good of
all, and especially for those of the family of faith." Galatians 6:10 NRSV
Recently, Bryan and I went to a local restaurant for
breakfast. The waitress/manager that regularly serves us is a
special person and has become a friend over the past several years. She is
a fellow Christian and always serves us with a smile and a positive attitude. On
this particular day she was excited because she and her husband were traveling
to Lancaster, PA the next day to pick up some furniture that they had ordered
from an Amish furniture maker, and also looking forward to
attending the performance of "NOAH" at the Sights and Sounds
Theatre. As we ate our breakfast, I was prompted by the Holy Spirit to do
something special for this friend. Bryan and I agreed to leave her a
sizeable tip to bless her that day. I wrote a note to her, telling her to
have dinner on us with her husband while visiting in PA. I enclosed the money
into the note and handed to her before we left the restaurant. She was
busy, so she slipped the tip into her pocket. Later that day we
received an email from her, thanking us and how blessed she was.
A few weeks later, we had breakfast at this same restaurant
and our friend waited on us again. She thanked us again for blessing her
and went on to tell us that day God had really answered prayer for
her. Unknown to us, she had prayed that morning for a specific amount in
tips to help with their travel expenses. She stated that she thought she
would be low on her tips that day. When she got home, she read our
note and took notice of the amount of money enclosed in the
note. The money added to her other tips was the exact amount she had
prayed to God for in the morning. Isn't God awesome?
God gave Bryan and me an opportunity to bless another fellow
Christian and I am so glad that I listened to His voice. God is always
working in our lives at the same time He is working in other's lives. We
sometimes don't see the connection or how when we obey, others are blessed; but
to know that we can be an answer to prayer when we respond to the prompting of
the Holy Spirit blesses not only us, but those around us.
